Local Attraction Singled Out By Good Morning America |
1 of 100 Top Events in North America Flattered With good Morning America Segment |
The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire hosted the crew of ABC News’ “Good Morning America” on September
26 and 27, to introduce 16th century Elizabethan England to America. GMA has scheduled the three minute
segment to air during their Sunday, October 25, broadcast from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. |
Weather and features correspondent for the weekend edition of GMA, Marysol Castro, dressed in Elizabethan finery and immersed herself in the Faire’s Renaissance culture. Castro feasted with Queen Elizabeth, pulled a sword from the throat of daredevil sword swallower Danny Snyder of Lititz, braved the wooden jousting horse known as the Quintaine that is ridden down a cable-slide to lance a ring, participated in the Birds of Prey Falconry show, and played the role of a pawn in the Match of Human Chess. |
“Good Morning America Weekend has never been to a Renaissance Faire so we thought it was time to go and
find out what it’s all about,” said Weekend GMA Producer, Taylor Behrendt, who traveled to PA to supervise
the shoot. “Renaissance Faires are held in lots of states throughout the nation and continue to grow every year.
We wanted to get an inside look with GMA’s own Marysol Castro and experience what they have to offer –
games, shows, the food, the different activities and, of course, meet the royalty.” |
The GMA crew spent two days shooting at the Faire. The first day they gathered B-roll footage to interject into
the finished segment. The second day was spent taping Castro as she became involved in the activities and the
shows of the Faire. Also during the second day, Castro interviewed members of the Faire’s local Blackfryar
cast. Multi-year veteran cast members Eileen Daub of Lebanon, a marine biologist, and Steve Hager of
Emmaus, a Quality Control Chemist, explained why they keep coming back to the Faire to help immerse the
public in the life in 16th century Elizabethan England who visit the Faire if for no other reason than to put their
21st century cares aside for but one day. |
Once the segment airs, it can be viewed on ABC News’ website, http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Weekend/, along
with a slide show highlighting the many features of the Faire day experience. |
The three final days of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire unfold October 25, 31 and November 1. Visit www.PaRenFaire.com for more information. The Faire is located on the grounds of Victorian Mount Hope
Estate & Winery along Rt. 72, ½ mile south of PA Turnpike Exit 266, 15 miles north of Lancaster and 14 miles
east of Hershey. |
