IT’S OKTOBERFEST WEEKEND SEPTEMBER 26 & 27, 2009

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire

WHAT:

Raise a glass to lagers and lederhosen as the 29th season of the Faire continues with authentic food, music and dance of Olde Worlde Germany!

WHEN:

Saturday and Sunday, September 26 & 27, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.


WHERE :

The Royal grounds of Mount Hope Estate and Winery, Lancaster County, Rt. 72, ½ mile south of PA Turnpike Exit 266

WHY: Because there’s so much more than beer to Oktoberfest!


The Faire continues its 12 weekend run complete with 90 stage shows, scores of artisans, 22 Royal
Kitchens, award winning wines sampled daily, widely acclaimed ales and lagers brewed on-site and the
following additional entertainments!

THIS WEEKEND ONLY
THE SECOND ANNUAL BAR OLYMPICS – Think you are the Master of Ales, the Queen of Lagers, the Sultan of Suds? Find out if you have what it takes to be crowed the King or Queen of the brewery in this tournament of brews! Round 1: The Bar Triathlon – Test your skills at classic bar games: bar arrows, farthing-bouncing and Ale Pong! The top ten contestants advance to the next round. Round 2: Ode to Ale – Impromptu toasts in this battle of wits are sure to lead to hilarity as the top 5 move on to the final round. Final Round: Bar Keep Contest – Mount Hope’s finest barkeeps will judge this no-holds-bar competition of bartending skill. The grand prize winners will have the honor of naming the Wharf Bar, an honor to be held until the 2010 Oktoberfest when they must return to defend their titles!
BUT THERE’S MORE!
Ceremonial Tapping of the Keg – The celebration begins with the tapping a keg of the Swashbuckler Oktoberfest Marzen Ale in the traditional way. Art of the Brewmaster – The Faire’s Brewmaster, Mark Braunwarth, presents an in-depth discussion of the history and the art of brewing accompanied by free samples of the weekend’s featured ale, Oktoberfest Marzen. Topfschlagen! (Hit the Pot) – Nipperkins are invited to don a blindfold, take up a spoon, bang the ground in order to find the Pot that holds the prize, and yell “Topfschlagen!” to their heart’s content in this traditional Bavarian game. PA Alpiners – This lively group of Bavarian musicians is sure to make all audiences clap their hands and stomp their feet to traditional music! LANCASTER LEIDERKRANZ: Alpenrose Schuhplattler Dancers -- Enjoy displays high-flying, traditional Bavarian dances. Hobby Chor – Sing along with fun, traditional songs. Biergarten – Enjoy an unending array of traditional German foods including everyone’s favorite potato pancakes.

“Eins, Zwei, Drei, Zuffe!” The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire’s Oktoberfest celebration kicks off with a traditional Tapping of the Keg ceremony September 26 and 27. This celebration will feature the music, food and entertainments of Olde Worlde Germany with, of course, a special toast to all that is ale.

The Lancaster Liederkranz sponsored Biergarten is home to
fantastic fares from Olde Worlde Germany during Oktoberfest
weekend at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, September 26 and 27. The Biergarten will also feature Swashbuckler beers, Mount Hope wines and traditional Bavarian music while the Lancaster Leiderkranz Alpenrose Shuhplattler Dancers whirl around the stage performing traditional Bavarian dances.

Profess your love and affection for … beer? After the top ten
contestants of the Bar Olympics pass the Beer Triathlon, they will have to prove their devotion to this malty beverage by crafting an ingenious toast to the ale of their choice during the Ode to Ale competition, part of Oktoberfest weekend at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, September 26 and 27.

On your mark, get set, pour! Finalists in the three‐round Bar
Olympics, which begins with the Bar Triathlon and moves on to the Ode to Ale Competition, will have to prove that they can tend bar while handling the rowdiest of customers in the Barkeep Contest, all part of Oktoberfest weekend at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, September 26 and 27.
