Green & Growing
A Green Field Trip
April 30 & May 1, 2009
9:00am-3:00pm
A full day of interactive and fun learning about our environment and how to preserve it!
In 2007, the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire became part of a dedicated and focused group of "green" partners who, together, introduced the Great Green America Fest to the grounds of Mount Hope Estate & Winery. It was the dedication, excitement and energy of the participants of this first annual event that led to the creation of the Green and Growing Field Trip.
Throughout their day, in addition to interacting with green exhibits including air, water and land ecology exhibits, science competitions, wildlife displays and more, students will learn about many aspects of being green, going green and the importance of thinking green while enjoying the scheduled events on 10 stages throughout the site.

The 2nd Annual Great Green America Fest was held May 3 & 4, 2008 on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. This year, the Green and Growing School Day program was added to the festival on Friday, May 2, to spread the green message to the students who will someday become the caretakers of our planet. Designed to meet Pennsylvania Department of Academic Standards, the Green and Growing School Day drew an attendance of 3,400 local students. The field trip provided students with “edutainment” about their interaction with the environment through presentations and activities led by the Franklin Institute, Whitaker on Wheels, the Philadelphia Zoo, Waste Management, Ducks Unlimited, York College and many other green partners.
As part of the programming for the School Day, the children who attended were able to sign a banner representing their commitment in going green and protecting the environment. The banner is a way for them to show the world their dedication to making this planet a better place. On July 8, 2008 Tom Roy, a representative from the Green Fest and Ducks Unlimited, alongside Senator Mike Brubaker and Senator O’Pake presented the banner to Governor Ed Rendell so that he could see first hand the considerate and eco-friendly nature of Pennsylvania’s children.
