SCHOOL DAYS COMPETITIONS AND
PARTICIPATORY EVENTS

JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH DAYS

Students are invited to join in:

• Theatre: schools compete in theatrical performance.
• Madrigal: school choruses and madrigal groups compete in song.
• Heraldry: students design a Coat of Arms representing their school.
• Poster Competitions: students design a Ren Faire marketing poster.
• Well Spake: students can actually particpate in an Elizabethan Press Conference
• Lord & Lady Ceremony: each school may also choose a male and female candidate for a Lord and Lady Knighting Ceremony where students are honored by Her Majesty for outstanding achievement in the arts, academics or athletics.

(Pre-registration is required for all competitions and participatory events.)

ELEMENTARY DAY

Students are invited to join in:

• Poster Competition: students create a poster of their school's coat of arms.
• Costume Parade: students who want to get in the 16th century spirit parade in their costumes of olde.
• Well Spake: students actually participate in an Elizabethan Press Conference.
• Silly School: using their pre-trip made juggling balls, students learn the art of juggling.
• Command Performance: schools are invited to create a performance, whether it be music, song, dance, or a scene, and perform for the Queen Herself in Her "Command Performance."
• Lord & Lady Knighting: each school may choose a male or female candidate for a Lord & Lady Knighting Ceremony where students are honored by the Queen.

CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST

What is the Creative Writing Competition?

After attending the Faire on School Days, students are encouraged to participate in the Faire's Creative Writing Competition. Designed to accommodate all grade levels, the competition is geared to enhance the students' experience while attending the Faire by writing a creative story using ideas or characters they encountered while on their field trip.

A Grand Prize is awarded on an elementary, junior and senior high level and consists of a $100 U.S. Savings Bond, a $100 donation to the student's school library and a pass to the next season's Faire.

Finalist prizes are awarded at each grade level and include a $50 savings bond and a pass to the next season's Faire. All grand prize winners and finalists and their families are invited to attend the Faire as honorary guests for a special day in the summer where they are knighted by the Queen and escorted throughout the day by a member of the Faire staff.

We would like to congratulate the educators and students who participated in the 2007 Creative Writing Contest. It is always extremely difficult to judge the hundreds of wonderful essays we receive yearly. We are currently judging the essays from 2007 and will post the winners very soon! Thank you to all those who entered!
